What is the best type of compost to use to encourage growth of a Yucca brevifolia (Joshua Tree). I have some good organic compost but it is not for use with ericaceous plants and i have been having some difficulty finding out whether Yuccas are ericaceous. Can anyone help?

You would probably need a fast-draining, limey compost suitable for alpines or succulents. Avoid peat-based composts, and look for coarse ones with plenty of grit, pumice (or perlite, or volcanic cinders), and sifted, fine-ground bark. Joshua Trees are more sensitive to slow drainage or water retentive compost than most yuccas. Good luck, Annalise!
