Foxgloves are biennials right? Yet so many are advertised as perennials. Same with Verbascum.

Thanks Owdboggy. Was having a grump after checking out foxgloves on ebay.

I tried a perennial foxglove but it soon gave up. Probably my fault though.

Hi Sue, it probably wasn't your fault, although they call them perennial, in my experience, they don't tend to last much more than 3 or 4 years, so in my book that doesn't qualify as a perennial, Derek.

I'm now wondering why such a fanfare was made about the foxglove illumination a couple of years ago, if there were already perennial ones available.

Well it was a beauty wasn't it?

It looks a beauty in the pics. I bought 6 last year, only 1 of which flowered. Really hoping they overwinter with their deep mulch. Hardly any frost so far hereabouts but there's still time. I've also got one in an unheated greenhouse.

There are perennial Foxgloves as well as biennial ones. There are perennial Verbascum too, though they do tend to be short lived even then.
