What climbing plants would you recommend for an arch. We would like to have at least one that would stay interesting in the winter - either evergreen or early flowering.

Clematis armandii is a winter one. There is also winter beauty which is a honeysuckle.

I have just planted some jasmine for my one arch and my other arch has honeysuckle which seems to have settled very well and is now growing

If its a reasonably sunny position, have a look at Trachleospermum jasminoides - this is an evergreen climber with fragrant white flowers in summer.

Thanks for all your advice guys - just waiting on Argos to deliver the arch so we can go and select the climbers. Like the sound of the evergreen clematis and the jasmine. We've already got the Tangutica but I didn't know it as Bill Mackenzie.

« South facing garden and it has been warm. watered each evening. Four fuschia plants...
Next question
Not an evergreen...but a brilliant climber for an arch producing interest from June till November is the clematis "Bill Mackenzie"..it has a profusion of yellow flowers followed by lovely seed heads, and it is very rampant. One of my gems!
