Repotting an olive tree- which compost please.
I am repotting my olive tree and have been told to use John Innes no. 3 and grit. I will probably add about ten per cent grit. I was also advised to mix in multi-purpose compost 50/50 as that person thought I would not have much John Innes no.3. As it happens I have loads so would it be better to use it alone or mixed with multi-purpose? I also bought 'john Innes no. 3' for mature plants by accident, hope this will not make too much of a difference.
Thanks.

Thank you! I suppose the purpose of multi-purpose [this sounds odd] would have been just for bulk then.

Well it is good for seeds and growing on but not so good for long term shrubs etc. J I is more like 'real' soil!

J I no 3 would be perfect. Remember to put lots of broken crocks in the bottom for drainage.
