Flopping tulips. Is this caused by over watering, or by something else? I think I had this happen to me last year. This tulip is 'Apricot Beauty'. It has also suddenly lost its peachy colour. It has been flowering for about two weeks. Is it just what they do when they near their end?

I grow them in pots. As they are shallow rooted bulbs, they can probably quite easily plant quite deep in a pot. I will remember to. Some seem to drop their petals as they die. Others seem to die drooping.

I know what you mean - but die they must, within a fortnight, however they do it. Pretty colour though.

As they wave goodbye, up come the aquilegia.

that's the ticket, something else to look at as one goes over...

I wouldn't have said the tulips in the pix were dropping more pointing to the sun! As do ours in the ground.

Oh no, drooping they really are. Their time has come, their final bow.

Well two weeks is a good long time for a tulip to flower.

Yes, 2 weeks sounds like your money's worth, nice that they weren't damaged by bad weather. Aren't they lovely (sigh) and hello aquilegia. I think they're great too. : ))

If they were standing up for more than week, then they're okay - sometimes planting them a bit deeper helps with this trouble, but they do flop over as they come to the end.
