Potassium does encourage flowering, it also helps with the health of plant life, but it's best to have a good balance of Nitrogen, Phosphates and Potash with trace elements. The best product is one marked with John Innes base fertiliser.

Oh no, not the banana myth again - they're great on the compost heap, don't waste your time otherwise. RHS trials with banana skins showed no difference to plants with banana skins in, on or around the soil.

You should opt for a soluble fertizer.Never mind the brand.Look for one with
high percentage of potassium. eg.20N.5P.30K.This or similar ratios, will encourage flowering and fruiting. As you may know N (nitrogen ) is for foilage,
P(phosporus )is for root-system and K(potassium) is for flowering and fruiting.

Mum and I heard on the radio that banana skins are good for roses. She chopped some up and buried them under the soil surface around her roses. Now she's done the same to other plants with good effect.
I'm worried she will lose them to potassium overload!! I'll be interested to hear others comments too.
