I have bare root strawberry plants & the roots are very long - would it be OK to trim them before planting in grow bags?

i dont think theres ever much of a cause to remove roots from any plant much that your trying to repot or move . i guess there must be the odd exception like bonzei trees but i doubt theres many.

I do - the reason I have so many is that I'm a volunteer gardener for a community project (couple of polytunnels & a small fruit plot). Started planting today & hope to get it finished tomorrow - things are very late here as it's been so cold, only just into double temperatures & down to about 5 at night so I'm crossing my fingers it'll get warmer soon! Cheers.

Yup it is an odd year in terms odd weather... I put it down to climate change and the erupting volcano in Iceland

Hi Tifrress and welcome to GoY wouldn't recommend removing any of the root - the plant needs this to grow. As they are bare rooted don't expect a crop this year.
