Hi there

I have just had some beds dug out on my lawn in my new house, the chaps who did it said it was new top soil (they dug loads up with the grass) and wanted to take it away. I decided to keep it as parts of my garden is solid chalk, what is the best way to "kill" the grass, leave it in bags or left in a darkish place piled up?Thanks so much for your help

Firstly,Connie, what are your newly dug holes going to be filled with..are you filling with compost or top soil for flower beds? If,so,the grass turves can be stacked in the bottom of them..first layer, grass side facing, and next layer, grass side down, and so on,till you reach the required level you want, ending with grass side down.....They will soon rot down....Your soil levels will drop anyway, after filling,as it will be quite a loose structure, especially with all the rain it will get...better to be higher in the first place,to allow for that..
If however, when you say 'holes' do you mean only the top layer has been taken off?
If so,,stack them on an unwanted patch of soil, preferably in a shadier place, till needed,as stated before....hope this helps, and welcome to GoY ..
