I'd agree - I wonder if it's a reverted one?

Wont know till its exposed - interesting how all the tops of the growth has been killed back, too.

I'll put more photos on when I get the nettles down!

I had to trim my 'Emerald 'n' Gold' back as it got frost damage! I was shocked....

sunspot reverts easily and seems a little more tender than the 'fortunei' type in my garden

I've put a better photo on now. What do you all think?

Definitely euonymus - looks like a reverted to plain green one - they usually have yellow colouration on the leaves somewhere. Perhaps it will colour up as it grows and then we'll know which variety it's meant to be. Evergreen one anyway and I suspect its a Euonymus japonica rather than E. fortunei variety.

Well - at least it's an evergreen shrub for you, Ian! It may well be a reverted one - I'd agree on that, but they do give some structure in the winter, so I'd keep it, I think.

Thank you both. It is one we will be keeping, it was at the side of the "nettle mound" in one of my blogs.

With any luck, it's only plain green because its been either cut back hard, or the winter punished it, and its been "buried" by the nettles and will produce variegation as it grows.

That would be difficult, Bamboo - I always cut out any reversions. How would Ian handle that with 'his' Euonymus?
9 Jun, 2010
It might just be the basic Euonymus japonica, which is plain green - I was vaguely hoping it might be E. Japonica ovatus aureus, which often carries both yellow, green, and yellow/green mixed leaves, and the different colours might emerge later. Or not!

I think this is the one we have between us and next door. It's HUGE and OH has to take the hedge trimmer to it a couple of times a year. It makes such a mess! No sign of anything except dark green leaves.

Well I know what it is and only time will tell what colour it will be! Lol
By the way Spritz, I PM'ed you.
