Any suggestions on pegging my lawn edging so it stays upright and level? Was thinking about cheap wooden garden clothes pegs and spliting them? Be about right size but not sure if they'd rot when in the ground!!

Thx Drc. Tried to bury deeper but haven't got the depth i'm afraid. I'll pop into B&Q tomorrow to look for the metal pegs!

wood always rots next to dirt sooner or later . it would be one of my top tips to not put soil next to wood .

So how long will this edging last if its up against soil?

It should last some years as its made for the job and treated?

Thank god for that! Thought i'd just wasted £20! lol

I have been giving this more thought??? I think you need to stretch it a little to get a straight line? If about every 4-5ft and at each end you nail wooden stakes about 9-12" plus the height of the edging, to the back of the edging (alien both at the top) slightly stretching the edging along the ground and hammer in each stake firmly. I got the idea from looking at edging as you can buy wooden edging similar to yours with the stakes already attached. If you google 'wooden lawn edging' you will see what I mean.

Yes I saw the same design with stakes on each end but my budget wouldn't stretch to do the whole garden. I got 3 double packs for the price of 2 which enabled me to do my whole garden with 1ft left over! lol. Good idea though Drc. Looked in B&Q yesterday but didn't have anything so going to try homebase today as getting 2 new hanging baskets to make up!

Good luck but if not look in a caravan/camping shop tent pegs may work?

ive had treated wooden fence posts rot through in a year but dont worry without so much pressure from wind they will last a 2-3 years .tent pegs being metal will last a lot longer.

Found some plastic mesh pegs that are long enough to do the job. Got 20 in the bag so will give them a go & hopefully they'll work. If not then only £2 wasted. lol

Yes won't be today I don't think as intermitting rain showers is halting my progress on me building up my hanging baskets. Got 1 done and half way through 2nd! Typical weather when you've got the whole day, bet it's lovely tomorrow when back at work! lol

Cheers NP. Due to rain it hasn't got done today as the lawn is now soaked and still soft around the edges due to being newly laid. Hopefully no rain tomorrow and get on with it after work!

Oh yes. 1st time i've done lawn edging and it was fine when 1st laid it but over the past few weeks its slowly leaning over from weight of soil.

You can buy metal pegs in garden centres for doing this - more than one type. I found the best way was to put them down both sides. Another way is to bury the edging more? Got rid of mine in the end as I found it was hell to mow and edge.
