You can take cuttings from now until early summer. Or if it is from your garden you can layer it. For cuttings, cut new shoots at the point where they grew from last years wood, to include the 'bud' area from where it has sprouted this year. Trim the tops to 4 inches if they are too long. Put them in a free-draining compost and water in. Put the pots in a propagator or plastic bag to conserve moisture. Check them regularly and pick off any dead leaves to prevent rot. Rooting can take up to 10 weeks. Grow them on for 2 or 3 years before planting out.
