Diva unless you have an agreement with the buyer of the property you can't move the acer as it is part of the sale.

six inches tall should be easy to move - unless its 4 feet wide as well! Which it might be, if it's one of the dissectum types. You will need to start digging (with a garden fork, not spade) around the edge of the width of the tree, carefully loosening the soil as you go, if you feel roots blocking your progress, stop and start even further out. Continue to loosen all the soil until you can tell where all the roots run, trying to maintain a good ball of soil around the central part of the plant. You may need to use a spade to carefully remove excess soil so you can see what you're doing properly. Ease it out of the ground, being careful to excavate the inevitably longer roots going straight down directly under the main trunk or centre of the plant. Pot up if possible, without crimping the longer roots - if not, package in a tarpaulin or sheet of plastic, packing the roots with damp soil or compost, water a little and tie the sheet/tarpaulin around the base of the trunk, such as to retain all the soil and roots in place. Transplant as soon as possible. and good luck with it...

I wonder if the law in America is different about what is and what is not included in a sale? In Britain anything planted in the soil belongs to the property and unless excluded from the sale, must be left behind.
