Horsetail Weed. Could you please tell me when to spray with weedkiller as I have a few in my garden. Is it when the plant is approx 2" high or do I need to wait until it is fully matured?

You can spray Marestail when its growing, but I think its best to pull them up as soon as you see them as they grow in amongst plants you risk killing them too?

If anyone knows a definite way of eradicating this then I am interested in hearing it as I have never managed it, only controlled it by pulling it up every year.

Horsetail has a waxy coating, before spraying with a weed killer pour boiling water on it.This will remove most of the wax and help the weedkiller penetrate tit.

I agree Bryony pulling it up does seem to reduce it over the years. I now have much less. I couldnt do that Grandad, as it grows in among my plants so boiling water or spray would do too much damage.

I struggled with the weed for 8 years without sucsess, it is a nightmare !!
Bruising the stems helps it to absorb systemic weed killer but the roots travel enormous distances ! It has been around since the dinasours so is pretty unkillable !!! Good luck ... I only got rid of it when I moved house !

How do I say thanks?
