Magnolias don't need pruning as it can spoil their shape. However, if it is growing where it is in the way, like over a path, then you can take off any offending branches. You could do this now, but be warned it will make it sprout again! Rub off all but one new shoot and keep pinching out the tips to make it bushy rather than long again.
