how do you cut off the dead flowers form a Calathea crocata »
Learn to prune it correctly - this should be done in mid February (reduce laterals to 5 or 6 buds from previous year) and again in August (trim laterals back by about half). Note, laterals are side shoots - training should be done by lopping off the main stem at the height you want, then allowing the side branches (laterals) to grow. If you have several main stems coming up from the ground, restrict those to 1, 2 or 3, depending what you're growing it on.
