Hi, please could you tell me if this is the Welsh poppy (Meconopsis cambrica) or the California poppy (Eschscholzia californica)? Some of the seed pods are up to 2in long & curved.
Thank you.

It's an Escholitza californica (california poppy) they have long thin pod-like seeds. Have seen pods as long as 3-4"

Agree and mec. cambrica is a much yellower flower (and a pain to try and get out of the garden)

...and don't you just love pulling their 'hats' off!

Indeed - only way to stop it seeding all over the garden Volunteer. We will never get rid of but hopefully keep under control!

Escholtzia or the Californian poppy. Meconopsis cambrica has different petals and the seed heads are more like a normal Papaver type seed head.
