Bare root peaonia help needed please.

I have just recieved my bare root peaonia ( Wu long peng sheng ) and have been advised to stand them in a tepid bucket of water for 24 hours prior to planting out. Is this correct ?
Also how deep should I plant them ?
1 site recommends 1 inch above the crown but another recommends 4 inches. Which should I do ?
Thank you for any help.

Yes to the soaking.
This is a tree paeony so the stricture about planting shallow does not apply. If you can see where it was originally planted on the plant then plant to that depth, if not then the top of the roots should be about 2 to 4 inches below soil level. Do not allow it to dry out once planted wither.
