We have a large problem and don't know what to do about it. Several years ago when planting up this garden, we put in an evergreen honeysuckle. We realised after a while that it was intruding on our neighbours leylanii hedge, so we immediately got rid of the original plant on our side. However, it has grown and grown on her side, and now covers the full length of the hedge, growing at a very fast rate. Our neighbour is a dear old lady, who says she doesn't mind. The hedge needs cutting often because of the honeysuckle.
We cut it, and so does her daughter, but we feel so guilty causing so much work. Please advise us .

Appart from hauling the whole lot, honeysuckle and hedge, out with a JCB I don't think that there is much that you can do, Rosie. It sounds as if the honeysuckle should have had a health warning.

Unfortunately, it's also a boring plant. Insignificant flowers and no scent. Yawn! Why do people sell it?

Many thanks to you all. I hate the leylandii anyway, but our neighbour says it is all that is holding up the fence !

Well, you did say that she is 'a dear old lady'!

I wouldn't worry about it, just one of those things - Leylandii themselves should be cut back every 2 years minimum anyway, so if that was being done regularly, it wouldn't be such a problem.
