Plant in appropriate soil (they prefer heavyish, rich soil) in sun/part sun. Use a specialist rose food at the correct times of year for your area and according to the instructions on the pack. Spray fortnightly during late spring and summer with anti fungal and pesticidal spray (that'd be Roseclear in the UK, not sure what you've got over there.) Prune properly, at the right time of year, depending on the variety of rose you've got. Deadhead by removing part of the stem back to an outward facing bud, not by just nipping off the flower head (this does not apply to ramblers or non repeat flowering roses). Do not let them suffer drought (they'll survive, but won't be 'prime') and topdress with well rotted manure every other year, or yearly if your soil is poor.
