Hello All you knowledgable people, can anyone tell me why numerous clematis in my garden have buds on them which look as if they are being eaten and not opening, this is very upsetting as am usually quite proud of them,HELP PLEASE.

Most likely earwigs - they feed at night. If they're species clematis rather than hybrids, the other possibility is short tongued bees, which penetrate the bud to get at the nectar - but most hybrid clematis don't produce nectar, just pollen.
