I can only tell you the preparation you should have done before laying turf - dug the area, removing all perennial weed roots, raked roughly level, trodden down by heeling all over, then lightly turned over again, then a large plank or piece of wood dragged all over to level out (I've even seen someone use a step ladder for this, with strings attached for pulling it along). Leave to settle for a few days, relevel if necessary, checking for soft spots, then turf.
