Does anyone have any idea what animal or bird would bite off newly planted Tuscany Black Kale plants, carry the leaves over the edge of a raised bed (30cm) and lay them all out on the gravel below? All 20 or more leaves were laid out in a very neat, lined up pile.

squirrels are a possibility. but I have a magpie that collects labels into a pile on the path.

Thanks for your replies - I think magpies could be the culprit. I'll need to get up early in the morning and keep a look-out. Might even see the garden fairies :-)
