Hi, have bought Dahlia Tubers from end of season sale, can i put them straight into the garden or do they need some preparation

I'd pot them up until they get started - apart from anything else slugs love them and can finish off new foliage overnight.

Copper tape has worked for mine in pots; now has new shoots and no slug damage so far.
