Does anyone know how to get rid of soil centipedes? I can't grow anything below ground in the veg patch as everything gets eaten / bored into. Any help appreciated. Thank you.

You don't want to get rid of the centipedes as they are the predators that eat the critters that are damaging your plants.
do you mean actual mustard gas ie chlorine based; used in the Great War? That's interesting biochemistry if that's true.

I believe the photo is of a wire worm, not a centipede.

No, not quite the same as the warfare agent: natural mustard oil releases isothiocyanates, which are effective pesticides/repellents. The man-made, chlorine-based sulphur mustard gas only has a similar aroma.
The photo does show a centipede, I believe.

Hi, I agree, definitely a centipede, a wire worm only has 3 pairs of legs, centipedes 1 pair per body section, millipedes 2 to 4 pairs per body section, centipedes eat other pests, millipedes rotting vegetation, or if this is not available, young seedlings or shoots, and unless you have an invasion of them are beneficial, Derek.

A cover crop/green manure of mustard leaves, cut down and allowed to rot in situ is supposed to drive away nasty invertebrates, especially potato wire-worm. As it rots it releases mustard gas into the soil. And its a great soil conditioner.
Most centipedes are carnivorous and they eat the pests. Wireworms, the ones that cause the damage in potatoes, are click beetle larvae.
