Old make-up brushes are really good for applying weed killer direct to leaves of weeds which are close to plants. My daughter uses an old washed mascara brush for the tiny weeds. Hope this helps. Nan

Roundup is advertised as child and pet friendly. Roundup contains glyphosate, which now seems to be the trendy weedkiller since sodium chlorate was recently banned by the EU. A lot of other proprietary brands of weedkiller contains glyphosate, so I would seek out a cheaper version and use that.
Weedkillers have come a long way since the old days when they used poisons to kill the weeds. Glyphosate works by destroying the plant enzymes which causes the plant to die and is not poisonous to humans or animals unless it's digested in large quantities .
Believe it not there are are also weedkillers that are in fact super plant foods. The way that they kill the weeds is that they cause the plants to grow so quickly that they grow so gnarly, can't cope and then they die. So even if a pet or child did ingest this it wouldn't be harmed.

Shield your plants with a piece of cardboard and direct your weed killer spray at the weed with a slight angle towards the cardboard shield
