When we moved into our new home we did a lot of landscaping with plants bought at what I call a "parking lot" nursery. The grower sells beautiful plants on the honor system but they usually have no name tags. This grass was one of them but I don't know what it is or when I should have pruned it and is it too late to do so ( it's not looking too happy).

Thank you so much for such a quick response. Wonderful to have somewhere to turn to. Not knowing the name of a plant is like asking your mom how to spell a word when you have no clue and being told to look it up. :-)
I'll follow your advice this afternoon.

Looks like uncinia rubra. You should be able to give it a light trim, then put good garden gloves on and rake through from the bottom up. This gets rid of all the loose stuff. make sure you wear the gloves or you'll shred your hands.
