On my roses and a few of my other plants, the stems are going yellow. Can anyone explain please

Yes barked, but also sprayed with bug killer. Should i have not????? Novice gardener. First year.

Well, the bark can release a lot of tannin into the soil (depending on the tree bark used) which can lock nutrients up in the soil making it hard for some plants to absorb them. This would manifest over a period of time, not immediately.
Assuming the bug killer was applied at the correct rate (unless a pre-mixed hand spray) it probably won't be this.
