Errrrm....upwards ???

Mostly clockwise, occasionally anti clockwise.

In our experience it has always been anti-clockwise… same as climbing beans.

Sometimes sideways :0)

Mine grow anti clockwise - just been outside to make sure!
ie they grow from left to right as you face the cane at eye level.

This is a serious question. If I remember correctly, in the southern hemisphere they climb the opposite way - just like water going down the plughole.

Indeed it is which is why I said anticlockwise… We've watched it every year we've grown climbing type beans. Sorry Bamboo in this instance you are not correct.

and water going down the plug hole also depends if the water is already on the move.
spent many a happy hour with the children playing with the bath water. making it go one way and then the other.

Isn't there something about it being confusing because if you look down the pole they're climbing, they're clockwise, but if you look from the front at them, they're anti clockwise, or maybe the other way around, I can't recall. Frankly, so long as they climb up efficiently, I don't much care which way they do it, really, and there seems to be a lot of conflicting information on the web about this. And isn't it a myth that they climb the opposite way in Australia, along with the water down the plughole thing? I vaguely recall it being something I learned on QI...

Still,you can't beat real experience, Charliehoward, so I'd certainly go with the opposite of what I said as posted by the others... that is, anti clockwise.

My OH tried to explain that they look clockwise if you look they are down on them - which is why I said if you look at them at eye level they grow anti clockwise. So we all agree, which is nice!
