can i use fig leaves in my garden cut fresh from the tree for mulch

I see no reason not to but why would you cut them off the tree in the first place.

My grandfather had two fig trees and the figs were delicious. In the fall when one could see thousands of birds migrating south I would help him wrap the trees up for the coming winter. What great childhood memories. Why would you want to denude a fig tree for that purpose? My recommendation is that you buy bagged mulch instead and leave this beautiful tree alone.

My fig in a pot is pruned after the figs are ripe and taken off. It gets too big for my garden. It is about 12years old and just left in the pot over winter.

In that case use them for mulching purposes if you wish but thank you for your question. It brought back a memory for me that was dormant for some time.

You can, but if you live somewhere warm, make sure you spread them out thinly and don't pile them up if there are lots - they'll produce heat as they decompose and that might not be very good for any plants there.

How do I say thanks?
