lyn you are right the Lineafolia berberris is an orange variety and this is what this is when it comes out in Mayish each year, in my photo it appears as reddish but this is I believe at the end of it flowering period and the Lineafolia seems to be grafted on to a Thundari variety whixh wants to dominate the Lineafolia what I need to know is how I can stop the thundari from taking over againas the Yeloo orange lineafolia is so much prettier. Thanks for your answer to my problem in advance chris

A few weeks ago I wrote asking about pruning a Lineafolia burberris which was being overtaken by the host plant. It has taken two years of removing any sign of new growth by the host plant but it is looking in need of pruning and I don't know how to do this.
Neither do I know what type of fertiliser to use
From the photo you can see it is not in good health.

I am keen to succeed because my daughter and her husband bought it just after their wedding and they have never seen another one since! Thank You for your help.

I vaguely remember your earlier question - it caused a great deal of confusion because we didn't know which plant you were talking about, and asked for a photo.

Unfortunately, the photo you've now posted is pretty blurry as well as sideways on, and its hard to distinguish which plant it actually is, but it does resemble Leptospermum scoparium of some variety. If it is one of those, it's not entirely hardy in the UK.

Without knowing for sure which shrub it is, its hard to give accurate advice - you say 'Lineafolia burberris' but there is no such plant. There's Berberis lomarifolia, and several other varieties of Berberis, but none produce what appear to be the reddish flowers in your photo.
