Hi just a simple question I purchased a "timberley early" crown in march this year put it in the ground and i now have a lovely crop of stalks , now do i pull them ,or leave them on i have been told to leave them the first year but it seems such a waste

It isn't a waste. They are working hard through the leaves to build up good roots for next year. Even next year its best not to pull more than about a quarter of the stems or you will weaken the plant for the year after that. If this is not enough rhubarb for your needs it is better to get another plant in addition.

Leave them on to feed the crown. If you really feel you must pull some no more than 20%.
