Not a gardening question. Anyone with deeper know how got any advice about how to protect ourselves from this serious trojan and locking virus that sounds like the modern version of a highwayman!!? The site that was supposed to tell us how to cope was either down or overloaded yesterday.

Have you got an up to date version of virus protection that should keep it away. They update their protections by downloading and maintaining spyware and virus protection all the time. If you go on line and look and see what is on offer if you haven't its not cheap but well worth it :O)

As Oliveoil said, up-date your virus protection. Also, I understand that this virus is spread via email, so don't open any emails that you are suspicious about.

I do have Up to date virus protection and have just given a going over of the system with the product. What puzzles me is how it gets into police and important business systems with all the IT back up they must have to keep their systems running.

The It systems in Big businesses etc. are a joke. Our 12 year old grandson had to re-do the security system on their Schools computer network as it was so out of date and useless. The IT Dept. had no idea how to do it.

The getsafeonline.org website does not seem to be working as said.

Thanks for your answers everyone. It said on the news that a police department in USA had to pay to get their system unlocked. If no bank pickings it can lock up your computer and demand a payment to send a code to unlock it!

There is a lot of nonsense written about the Ransom ware. Any decent Security program will stop it or if you get it, remove it for you.
This is interesting reading.
