I used to stick garden canes in at an angle and hang old CDs from them.

In my view nothing keeps pigeons off from their feedings grounds apart from total netting. I have tried keeping them away from my garden for years.......no luck. I am seriously thinking about having pigeon breasts for lunch tomorrow.

I would suggest netting.
Also has the advantage of keeping the cabbage white butterfly off them.
Having said that no matter how well you net the brassicas the odd white always gets in.

A good cat will probably keep them away. If that fails, and they are Wood Pigeons, then a shotgun or air rifle will do the trick and they make good eating. If you don't require any more for the pot just leave a dead one on a stick and this will deter any other pigeons from coming near it.

@ Myron....about leaving a dead bird on a stick...I remember they did that with crows...but if it worked I have no idea.

Hallo. I also have had trouble with pidgeons. I put some long bamboo canes up, tied twine between them and then cut some big plastic bags up into strips and tied them to the twine...acts as a sort of scarecrow...I also got some big plastic bottles and cut big holes in them putting them on the above canes and when a light breeze comes they will rattle on the canes. Thats how I cope with pidgeons...no doubt other members have their own ideas....it will be interesting reading them....every little bit of advice helps.
