Fruit on gooseberry plant
I planted a gooseberry bush last year hoping for fruit this year. I got not a single flower. Any idea?

And did you prune it down to encourage new shoots to form, like you would with roses?

Concentrate this year on getting a good open shape in the bush. In February take back new growth a little to encourage side shoots and give it a feed of potash. In subsequent years do the same thing but also remove any branches that are crossing or that look weak, and shorten new side shoots to about 6 buds. (Gooseberries, like red currants, fruit on mature wood over a year old) It could be several years before you start to get reasonable crops but you should get a few next year.

Hi Jane and welcome to GoY, if this is a young bush it will be putting its energy into growing and establishing itself rather than expending energy by flowering and fruiting. When did you actually plant the gooseberry and was it in a pot or bare rooted?
