hi i have a well establishished photinia that has lost nearly all its leaves but if you cut into a branch it is still green would a good prune bring it back to life

hi bamboo thank you, it has been in the ground for at least 10years and has been a lovely heathy tree but this tear i thought that the frost had got the tips of the new growth ,but it barley has any leaves on now

I just wondered whether it was restricted at the roots, but if it's in open ground, it's not that. It doesn't sound good, but I would definitely cut it down quite low, lightly turn in some feed (Growmore or Vitax Q4) around the base, water if its dry, in hopes it recovers and puts out new growth. Before you do that though, check the whole of the woody parts, particularly the main stem and at the base, to make sure there aren't any soggy, soft parts. If there are, dig it out and dispose of it.
