I have this year tried a yellow variety of courgett in my green house.
can anybody tell me if you have male and female (like cucumbers) and if the long stems with just a flower at the end have to be removed to allow the courgettes to develop

The long thin stems with the flower is the male, they will always appear first, because you are growning in a green house you may need to pollinate yourself. When a female appears, take the male flower, strip its petals and insert into the female flower, gently transfer the pollen. You may find you do not need to do this, but because under cover less chance of wind, or insects to do the job.
