Would Irises grow in clay soil in a shady area?

That answers my question then Annella, thanks!
I had some in a sunny position in Spring and they did fine but died back weeks ago. Location I guess. I have them in another pot now with other bulbs just waiting for the foliage to die right back before drying off to plant in October. Just thought I'd get an idea before I wasted my time and effort trying to dig the clay soil near the pond....in shade!!
Thanks again

We are growing irises on boggy clay ground but in full sun. I think they like to be baked a bit so wouldn't like a shady spot.

Oddbillie, I moved my Irises from that sort of area last Autumn as they were doing nothing. They are now in my sunny front garden and are coming on in leaps and bounds. Hope that helps :-))
