i have planted some annual rudbekia amongst some that overwintered ,to fill the gaps.i have put growmore around them on the surface last month. during the warm weather at the moment , they are wilting and drooping in the daytime ,then they pick up later on. the soil is moist underneath the compost that i spread around them. is it possible that the growmore is causing them to droop?

Hi, welcome to GoY, firstly the growmore should have been raked or hoed into the soil, secondly how much compost did you put round them, ie, how deep, it sounds as though the moisture is being drawn out of the soil in the hot weather, taking moisture away from the roots of the plants, and making it feel moist under the compost, try giving them a good watering with a hose pipe, so that the water soaks right into the soil, not just wetting the surface, they're obviously losing more water than they're taking up during the sunny part of the day, and recovering in the cooler part of the day, when they're not losing as much, so this should work, Derek.
