Hi I have a problem with earwigs munching away at my young Helenium plants I have put pots on canes but only a few were caught,I have got some ant powder which mentions that it kills all things that crawl, now is it safe with plants? say if I put a ring of it round my new plants but not touching the plant,as much as I love nature I don't like to see my plants eaten.regards pathumwan

Earwigs do not normally eat growing plants and its more likely to be slugs or snails that are eating your heleniums. Ant powder will not hurt your plants but I'd try a slug trap or some pellets or other slug treatment and see if it helps.
