Hope it goes well for your ScrumpyG… when did you flit to Turkmenistan?

It's a bit far for me, however, do you have any websites or books I can read about growing exhibition sweetpeas as I intend to show next summer.
Thanks

Will you be showing us some photos Scrumpy? Good luck if you are exhibiting.

It's too hot over here in Turkmenistan, impossible to keep up with the watering. Will have to move back sometime :)

Hopefully will have one or two decent vases to show. I am entering just my seedlings as that is all I have grown.
Until the colours stabilise it's a bit hit and miss, but they are good ones.

As to growing them, here are a couple of links

I don't agree with all of the things they say, but a combination of the two gives you just about everything you need to know.

If you join the national sweet pea society you may be lucky and get a book by Roger Parsons for free:

Sweet Peas, an essential guide

The end of July I will be starting a proper, real time sweet pea blog, starting with seed collection, then sowing seed, overwintering, planting out, layering showing. That may help you too.

At the end of the day, the biggest factor is definitely your soil. I helped my neighbour make some sweet pea beds as he was keen to grow them properly. Got in brand new top soil.Gave him some of my spare plants, told him what to do with them regarding watering, tying up, feeding, and his flowers are better than mine !!!
And it's his first attempt. So it is possible to go from complete novice to show winner in one season.

I will post a few pictures and videos of the show on photobucket later and give you the link.

I managed 2 first, 2 seconds and a third, and got best vase in section, so quite pleased.
