We have garlic rust on our garlic and was advised to cut off the affected leaves, however, it was easier to cut all the stem off and we were then going to dig it up and dry and use the garlic. However, we are not sure that the garlic is formed enough and now dont know whether to lift them or leave them in the ground, will they keep on growing? We are new to our allottment and have had many different opinions on what we should do that we are now confused? Please help? Many thanks

It won't grow any more if you cut the leaves off unfortunately. Its a bit early to harvest it but its easy enough to tell how big the cloves are - just dig round one until you can see it! You can use it even if the cloves are quite small.
