When did you plant them and when did you harvest them? They are not greenhouse plants. They should be outside once the frost danger is passed. Potatoes can take a long time to grow depending on whether they are earlies, 2nd earlies or maincrop. Did you buy seed or use left overs from the supermarket. These are frequently treated to stop growth and can spread potato diseases and are not recommended. Please if you are unfamiliar with the site answer my answer in the box below. Not sure if Guest is able to answer like that Scotsgran. I would not expect any of our potatoes to be ready to harvest for a good month yet - and that is the earlies.

Its the only way we can see what the guest is saying. He /she does not say whether his crop was last year or this. We shall wait for his/her reply. I am surprised at the angst shown by first time or potential potato growers. It is always viewed as an easy crop and maybe that is why we do not bother to go into the detail of "how to" that we might proffer to someone planting a shrub for the first time.

Sorry SG was not clear I don't think that Guests can respond to a question... not that Guest wont know the answer lol

Yes I view potatoes as an incredibly easy crop to grow but learnt how to as a child.

If guest is talking about this years crop then he/she is far to early in harvesting them. Mine won't be ready for at least another four to six weeks. A good tip for how to check if potatoes are ready is to have a dig around the base of the plant with your fingers and if you can feel/see spuds then you have spuds!

Guest if you use the link given below you will find detailed instructions on how to grow potatoes. It has pictures to illustrate what it is saying. The only thing I would disagree with in it, is the advice to add bonemeal. I would recommend using growmore if you feel you need something. http://www.gardenaction.co.uk/fruit_veg_diary/fruit_veg_mini_project_november_1c_potato.asp

Hi moongrower this is the answer to whether or not guests can answer queries from members who are trying to help them. Click on guest to see the full explanation. I was not aware of this before --------
What else can guests do?
Asking 1 question is the only thing that guests can do. If someone asks a question and then joins they can 're-claim' their question to provide more detail or thank the answerers. We think having 1 question answered will whet guests appetite and encourage them to join in.

I'm still not happy with this 'Guest' situation as unless the guest asks a fully reasoned out question there is no way for us to answer. Even when we do guest can't thank us for doing so or raise a subsidiary question. Pete & Ajay know my views on this...

It is a daft situation.
