I have planted three marguerites in my little wall, as I do most years. Unfortunately this year the plants are quite tall and spindly and I want them to bush out. Can I safely pinch out the tips and how far down should I take it? If I do this, I'll lose the flower buds that are already on the plants - will this matter?

Take 'em down asap - yes you will lose the flower buds currently present, and you will have to wait for the plants to put out new leaves and get bushier before more appear, but they will appear.
