I have a pear tree in my garden. It is about 5 years old. Every year it flowers but then the fruit dies off soon as thay start to grow. The tree looks healthy enough. I have a young pear tree l planted last year that seems to be doing realy well in the same soil. Can you help or should I give up ln it and dig it up many thanks Barry Sanderson York

The usual cause for fruitlets dropping or dying like this is drought, or at least, insufficient water, so the tree drops its fruits to save itself. Otherwise, have you ever inspected the fruitlets as they start growing - if you see blackening beginning at the eye on the bottom, then Pear Midge might be the issue.
