One of my nbrs round the corner has great climbers going over his fence & wafting fantastic fragrance into the street. A pale yellow/ rich Jasmine i guess. So intoxicating. Its hard not to nick a bit while I walk the dog round the block

Pale yellow flowers? Won't be Jasmine nor Trachelospermum, most likely honeysuckle.

why not knock on the door and complement him/her on the plant. Ask what it is then say 'may I be cheeky and ask for a cutting?' I have had success with this method on many occasions . [Especially when done with a smile.]

In my opinion, it's not really important what it's called. If you like it, and it obviously grows where you live, then I would try and get a cutting, plant it in your garden and just call it something like "The Lovely fragrant Flower" ;O)

Bramhallbill - honeysuckle flowers range from yellow and white, red and white, red, orange, and mixes in between, depending on variety.
