Dwarf phlox, lily of the valley, thyme, salvia, night scented stocks? If it's against a wall, add a climber with a small footprint, like a honeysuckle or a jasmine, perhaps some sweet peas too.

If its there's a shady part try a Christmas box, sarcococca. Insignificant flowers in late winter that smell marvellous.
Some of the smaller roses if you choose scented ones.
Narcissi - some more scented than others. Old fashioned Ladslove, aka Old Man aka artemesia abrotanum, Wallflowers.

Just as I was about to send this, you beat me to it. Christmas Box, Sarcococca species, especially as it is to go in an area which you will pass regularly. What could be better to be greeted with this wonderful scent in the middle of winter? Can be surrounded with spring bulbs or bedding.

Only trouble is they seem to grow pretty slowly so something else will be needed while yoy're waiting!

If you've got the cash to splash, what about, Daphne bholua 'Jacqueline Postill'. Yes, it can be slightly slow growing, but what a wonderful plant?
