I was in the lake district this spring and I saw several smallish trees covered in cayenne red flowers. I really want to get one for my garden but have no idea what these trees were. Most of the petals were red but one was deep orange. Any clues? Thanks.

Probably not fuchsia, not in spring in the Lake District, cold up there. Need more info really - what do you mean by 'smallish'? Were there leaves on these 'trees' or just the flowers? What were the flowers like? When, exactly, in Spring (March? April?) At the moment, all I can think of is Hamamelis intermedia 'Diane', or Chaenomeles, both of which flower on bare stems.

We have just come back from Orkney and there are lots of Fuchsia growing wild there. Is that a match?
