I have some crocus, tulip & daffodil bulbs to plant in containers for a splash of colour next spring ......can I plant some bedding plants such as winter pansies on top for a bit of autumn colour?
Also if I can do I remove the bedding plants after they have finished blooming etc before the bulbs come throuhg

Of course you can plant your winter pansies on top of your spring bulbs, Samantha. They will keep your containers looking good over the winter and shelter the bulbs from too much winter wet. You will probably find that the bedding is still in bloom when the crocus start to flower, so there is no need to remove them so quickly as they will probably compliment each other.

Thanks Bulbaholic, this is the first year of planting bulbs en masse (apart from the obligatory single crocus etc for my son when he was child for his granny for Easter)This will also be the first year of planting for over the winter colour.I now have my own tiny yard as I have reinstalled the dividing fence between my flat and the lady downstairs....she is not a gardening person unfortunatly.I so far have acers, hostas, azaleas, lavendar various hebes aswell as my beloved lilies.......I am becoming totally addicted to gardening to the point of joining a local voluntary group who plant up the councils now un loved planters to make the whole area look lovely aswell
