I have been asked to plant an established blue spruce (currently in a large pot) and wondered when the best time of year to transplant it into the ground is?

Colorado Blue Spruce (Picea pungens varieties) is a very tough, drought tolerant species. With reasonable care in transplanting, the main things that I would expect it to need in the UK are good drainage, and a sunny exposure. Staking to prevent wind rock the first winter would probably also be a benefit.
