is this an impulse buy? Urginea maritima

At the local plant man today, he had some huge bulbs [bigger than an Amaryllis bulbs] for £2 each. So sucked in I've bought one.

Any one have any experience of this bulb? I have read the info on the net and it is conflicting.

Never succeeded in gowing it but they grow on the coast in Cyprus, amongst other places. I would guess - keep it frost free, a light, sandy compost and completely dry during summer dormancy. Good luck with it.

Thanks Bulba, so yes I was suckered into this. I will see what it does. I might keep it in the conservatory then.

I wonder where your plant man obtained his bulbs in order to sell for £2, a bargain price as they must take years to grow to any size. In the eastern Mediteranean ground is continously being disturbed for the creation of roads, car parks and hotels etc. so, if they were rescued from a construction site I would have no problems with that.

He buys them at auction apparently legit [as I have asked him before] and he thought he'd give them a try. He knows nothing about them. Apparently they contain a natural rat poison.

How do I say thanks?
